Staff at Salford college 'shocked and saddened' after pupil dies following fall

Staff at a Salford college said they have been left 'shocked and saddened' after a pupil died following a fall.

The 16-year-old, who hasn't been named, passed away in hospital after falling from a floor at UTC MediaCity on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for the college said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the death of one of our students yesterday.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family at this time and we are offering support to our students."

Manchester Evening News readers also spoke of their shock following news of the boy's death.

Writing on the MEN Facebook page, one reader said: "My heart goes out to the family at such a tragic time, my son goes to the school, such a sad loss of a young life."

While another reader wrote: "Tragic accident. Thoughts are with his family at this horrific time."

"My niece goes to this school she is heartbroken, been up all night crying", said another.

Paramedics rushed to the scene at 3.30pm following reports 'a teenage male had fallen'.

Police confirmed the boy's death is not being treated as suspicious.

The pupil's family is being supported by specialist officers, they said.

A GMP spokesman said: "Shortly after 3.30pm on Monday, June 3, police were called by the ambulance service to reports that a boy was having a medical episode at a college in media city.

"Officers attended and the 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

"There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and file will be passed to the coroner.

"Specialist officers are continuing to support the boy’s family."
