Staff at local Sainsbury's superstore self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19

Sainsbury's have confirmed that two staff working at the superstore in Almondvale Retail Park in West Lothian have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

A worker at the shop raised concerns to Edinburgh Live, after hearing that colleagues had contracted the bug, saying: "I'm a scared staff member.

"I don't know if I've worked with people that have it or they've touched things."

The worker also claimed that they were concerned that the affected Sainsbury's 'hadn't closed for a deep clean or supplied their staff with any masks.'

The supermarket giant wanted to debunk these claims, telling Edinburgh Live that 'all appropriate protocols are being followed and all staff are provided with PPE.'

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Two colleagues have tested positive at our Livingston store and they are self-isolating at home.”

“Safety is our highest priority.

"We have introduced additional cleaning and have strict social distancing measures in all our stores, as well as hand sanitiser stations, Perspex screens and PPE for all our colleagues.

"We continue to support Test and Trace and remain in close contact with them.”
