Staff at Kirkcudbright's School Close producing PPE for local community

Staff at a Kirkcudbright residential unit for adults with learning difficulties have produced nearly 50 gowns for the community.

The team at School Close have been making the gowns for other care homes and the people who need them most.

Service leader Heather Birnie said: “The team have been amazing during the current coronavirus crisis. Everyone is pulling together to ensure the people we support stay safe and well.

“Whilst we have a good supply of our own PPE here, when the team heard about the national shortage of gowns they wanted to do anything they could to help.

“Bobby Waddell and Pauline Murray have shown such commitment towards helping our community and have even been creating the gowns in their spare time.

“The community spirit in Kirkcudbright is incredible at the moment and this is one huge example. After one call-out on social media for materials the team was inundated with responses of help.

“We’ve had materials donated from local seamstress Jenny Gardener and Kirkcudbright Development Trust and support throughout the project by Rotary Club trustee Margo Brown.

“I can’t thank them all enough and, with their backing, we’ve been able to produce nearly 50 gowns.”
