Staff at Dumfries and Galloway care provider set for bumper pay rise

Workers at one of Dumfries and Galloway's biggest care providers are set for a bumper pay rise.

Community Integrated Care is to give its staff a seven per cent rise in recognition for their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic and also to help beat the pressures of inflation.

The move means frontline support workers will now receive £10.20 an hour, with those who work 40 hours a week receiving an extra £1,460 a year.

The pay rise is part of a £5 million investment in its workforce over the next three years which also includes doubling pay for Christmas bank holidays.

Chief people officer at Community Integrated Care, Teresa Exelby, said: “This is by far the biggest investment in colleagues our charity has ever seen but it’s something that we know is absolutely justified and needed.

“Our workforce has continued to deliver the best lives possible for the people we support throughout the toughest of circumstances and we want to ensure their pay recognises this.

“We know that within the current economic climate many other sectors are dealing with major challenges, with some workers now facing redundancy or reduced hours now the furlough support scheme has finished.

“We want people to know that social care can be an amazing career option.

“Our charity is recruiting locally and can offer a market-leading pay rate, flexible working opportunities and immediate start dates.”

The charity – which supports people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health concerns to live independently – has also launched a new recruitment website at www.workincare.co.uk.
