Staff abused in shops and restaurants by gangs of 'children and teens'

Groups of children and teenagers have been committing antisocial behaviour and abusing staff in a town centre for the past few weeks.

Merseyside Police has said they have stepped up patrols and youth workers have been deployed in Liscard town centre after a spate of incidents.

Police said they have received increased calls regarding antisocial behaviour in recent weeks from businesses, particularly from shop staff and those working in fast food restaurants in the town.

Merseyside Police has responded with increased visibility in the area and said staff shouldn't have to tolerate the abuse they are receiving just for doing their jobs.

Wirral Community policing Inspector Alan McKeon said: “We have been experiencing antisocial behaviour issues in Liscard town centre over recent weeks, particularly in relation to off licences and fast food restaurants in the area.

“We are working with our partners to look into this issue and take action where necessary, as well as suggesting diversionary activities, and youth workers will be deployed to the area.

“I would also encourage parents to speak to their children and teenagers.

"Staff members at these premises shouldn’t have to tolerate abuse while going about their daily business.”
