Stadium of Light pitch set for £500,000 state-of-the-art transformation

The Stadium of Light pitch could be transformed into a state-of-the-art playing surface

The Daily Mail claims new owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is ready to fork out £500,000 to sort out the pitch at on Wearside, after it came under heavy criticism from Lee Johnson a few weeks ago.

The 23-year-old, who became the youngest chairman in England, has wasted no time in transforming behind the scenes at the club.

Sunderland recently upgraded their matchday streaming facilities to four cameras, to give fans a better coverage of games.

Now, the Black Cats could follow in Tottenham Hotspur's footsteps and install the same HT Pro hybrid turf system that is in place at their new ground.

Part of the investment will see a new integrated pitch-grow lighting system installed, where lights will be suspended above the pitch from rails at either end so it never comes into direct contact with the grass.

Clubs up and down the country currently use wheel-on grow lights - to grow areas of grass where stands and roof coverings restrict the sunlight, but these have been known to damage the playing surfaces.
