Stacey Solomon slams troll who accused her of not having the intelligence to study at University

Stacey Solomon shut down a Twitter troll who accused her of not being intelligent enough to study for a degree, claiming she would be working in a café if it wasn’t for her “lucky break” on X Factor.

Solomon, 29, sparked the backlash during a Loose Women debate on whether or not it is worth going to university, with Solomon telling viewers she does “not feel any less of a person” for not doing so.

“There will be so many incredible things that will come out of getting a higher education and going to university,” she said. “But one, it isn’t accessible to everybody so it’s not always an option and two, I don’t think it’s imperative. I don’t feel any less of a person or any less broad or less able to do a job because I haven’t been to university.”

One Twitter user appeared to suggest Solomon’s reason for not studying for a degree was because of her 'lack of intelligence' and not because she couldn’t afford it.

“Not being funny here!, but I really doubt Stacey could have gotten into a university,” they tweeted. “And truth be told if it wasn’t for a lucky Break on X factor, then she’d probably still be working in a cafe (nothing wrong with cafe work), but she certainly wouldn’t have the same money.”

Solomon clapped back at them for ‘stereotyping,’ tweeting: “I have a national diploma equivalent to 3 As at A-level & could have gone to university, if I could afford it. I’m an intelligent capable human.

“Your opinion demonstrates a lack of education & ability to see past stereotypical traits in a human that society deems unintelligent.”

Solomon was previously forced to defend herself against accusations she is too “stupid and dumb” to educate her son Zachary at home after she took him out of school.

Solomon finished third on the X Factor in 2009 before going on to be crowned Queen of the jungle on I’m A Celebrity the following year. She is now a regular on Loose Women and Celebrity Juice.

She is currently expecting her first child with Joe Swash. She also has son Leighton from a previous relationship.

Loose Women is on ITV, weekdays at 12:30pm
