Stacey Solomon never irons sons uniforms or tidies rooms because it made them 'lazy'

Stacey Solomon has become the queen of the tap to tidy trend on social media.

But the Loose Women star, 31, has told that she does not use her penchant for organising, decluttering and cleaning when it comes to her two eldest sons.

Former X Factor contestant Stacey shares a young son, Rex, with fiancé Joe Swash and he co-parents her two sons Zachary, 12, and Leighton, eight, from previous relationships with their dads.

And when it comes to their school uniforms and their bedrooms, Stacey has dished that she allows Zach and Leighton free range to take care of themselves as she wants them to "do it for themselves."

Stacey - who often shares snaps and videos of her immaculate home - told that she used to run around after her two older boys but realised that it was making them lazy - which is not what she wants.

Opening up on why she is a fan of letting the boys take on their own responsibilities, Stacey told during a chat on Virgin Radio on Tuesday: "I used to pack all of their school bags and iron all their clothes and put it out for them and make sure it was ready the next day, but it just made them so lazy."

Detailing how she was fed up with being hounded and that Zach and Leighton were not learning valuable life lessons, she added: "If I was going to work one day I would literally get phone calls from Joe saying 'where's the uniform? They don't know where this is. They haven't done that' and it just didn't serve a purpose."

Sharing on her turning point, she added: "In the end, I just thought - maybe about a year ago - they're going to have to do it themselves and take the responsibility and if they forget their PE kit they'll have to get the detention, that is life."

Surprisingly she also explained that despite her love of a clean living environment that she does not step foot into the boys' rooms and knows that they eventually tidy up when "they've had enough."

"I don't tidy the big boys rooms, I don't go in there," Stacey continued.

"If they want to live in filth, that's their decision but I know that every few weeks when they've had enough of it they do actually start clearing up their stuff and bringing their washing down or whatever. The more I do it for them, the less they realise that actually they're going to grow up and be adults and have to do it for themselves."

Stacey's passion for crafting and DIY has led to her being poached by BBC bosses to front her own lifestyle and home improvement series.

She will help inspire viewers to spring clean when she takes six families on a week-long mission to declutter their homes on new programme Sort Your Life Out.

Essex-born Stacey has four million social media followers largely thanks to the household tips and upcycling hacks she posts.

She told the Mirror: "There's always that one room or cupboard I can't face sorting out at home but once I've done it there's nothing more satisfying.

"I'll be sharing my ultimate tidying and upcycling tips, from Lazy Susans to tension rods, there'll be lots of great ideas to give viewers the confidence to finally tackle that cupboard."

The series will also feature a team of helpers, including home organiser Dilly Carter, carpenter and upcycler Robert Bent and cleaning expert Iwan Carrington.

A pilot will air this spring with the six-part programme to follow later in the year.

BBC commissioning editor Emily Smith said: "We're so excited for this series with Stacey and her team.

"It's amazing what they can do to turn homes around without having to spend loads."
