Stacey Solomon awkwardly compares Corrie's Andy Whyment to dopey character Kirk

Stacey Solomon awkwardly compared Coronation Street star Andy Whyment to his dopey character Kirk Sutherland on today's Loose Women.

During his first TV interview since flying home to the UK, Andy admitted it was amazing to have people chanting his own name and not his alter-ego.

He said: "I've obviously been on Corrie for 19 years playing this character of Kirk and that's all I get walking down the street.

"To know people got behind me as a person meant a lot to me. You’re being filmed 24 hours a day, there's nowhere to hide."

Despite revealing his joy at being separated from his character, Stacey confessed she thought Andy was "quite similar" to lovable fool Kirk.

After an awkward pause, Andy replied: "I like to think I’m not as thick as Kirk. I’m as lovable as Kirk."

Flapping Stacey explained: "That's what I meant. You're both nice people. I'll stop."

When asked if he was considering a career change after I'm A Celeb, Andy insisted Corrie is still top of his agenda.

He told the Loose ladies: " Coronation Street is my number one priority. I've always said that. When I came out in an interview they said, 'you're going to be offered a record deal'. I said, 'Thanks but no thanks'.

"I’ve been away of work for six weeks. When they lifted up those barriers to let me in I thought, 'I’m back home'."

Andy didn't realise how much he would miss his wife and kids in the jungle - admitting it was the hardest thing he had ever done in his life.

On whether he could be the new Ken Barlow, Andy said: "Bill Roache is amazing and still drives himself into work. I said I'll stay there as long as they'll have me.

"I love the show. I still watch it as a fan. I don't read the scripts, just my part. Unless it's a big storyline."

*Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm
