Stacey Dooley to join The One Show as guest presenter during Alex Jones' maternity leave

Stacey Dooley has been confirmed as one of Alex Jones’ replacements on The One Show during the presenter’s maternity leave.

The Strictly Come Dancing winner will join host Matt Baker on the evening magazine show for one week, beginning June 29.

The 32-year-old fronts documentary series Stacey Dooley Investigates and recently hosted make-up competition Glow Up for BBC Three.

Emma Willis and Mel Giedroyc are also set to join the show during Jones’ leave, with the former Big Brother host stepping in for two weeks from June 3.

Giedroyc will appear on the show’s colourful sofa for one week from June 24.

Regular guest hosts Angellica Bell, Angela Scanlon and Michelle Ackerley will also cover for Jones, who is set to return to work “in the autumn” following the birth of her second child.

“I know The One Show will be in very capable hands while I’m on maternity leave and good luck to all the guest presenters – I hope they have as much fun as I do on the show,” she said.

“I’ll be back on the sofa in the autumn, but in the meantime, I plan on watching from my own sofa with little Teddy and the newest addition!”

The announcement comes shortly after Dooley appeared to confirm her relationship with former dance partner Kevin Clifton, following ex-boyfriend Sam Tucknott’s claims that the Strictly duo had been secretly dating.

The documentary maker shared a photo of herself and Clifton with their arms around one another after they were reunited at his Burn the Floor show.

Tucknott previously branded Clifton an “absolute rat” and a “slippery snake” in an explosive interview.

Speaking to The Sun, the personal trainer revealed that he saw a text message from Clifton on Dooley’s phone which read “I love you” while the former couple were clearing out their shared flat following their split.

“The blame is with Kevin. He’s an absolute rat,” he told the paper.

“I was getting my stuff to leave. Stacey was in the loo.

“Her phone went and it was Kevin Clifton – ‘I love you’ with a red love heart. I grabbed the phone and confronted her. She said she’d tell me everything I need to know.”

Dooley addressed her ex’s remarks soon after, claiming that there are “two sides to every story” and wishing Tucknott “happiness and success.”

“Anyone with any adult life experience knows there are 2 sides to every story,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I haven’t got the time or energy to correct some of the utter nonsense I’ve read on here.

“Re Sam, I loved him v much and only wish him happiness and success going forward.”
