Stabbings, shootings, murder and more in a shocking week across Merseyside

This week has seen a number of tragic and terrifying incidents on the streets of Merseyside.

From the fatal stabbing of Connor Dockerty to a shooting in Toxteth, the emergency services have been called on to respond to some shocking reports of violence.

Streets and woodlands have also been cordoned off for devastating tragedies in Everton and Southport.

This is the latest on each of those incidents.

Stabbing of Connor Dockerty

Emergency services were called to Kingsway in Huyton at around 8pm on Monday following reports of a stabbing.

Mr Dockerty, 23 and from Litherland, was rushed to hospital but medics were unable to save him.

Detectives launched a murder investigation into his death, which a post mortem concluded was the result of multiple stab wounds.

Four teenagers were arrested on suspicion of his murder and, on Friday night, it emerged the youngest of those had been charged with that offence.

The 14-year-old boy is due in court on Saturday.

A boy and a girl, both aged 15, have been released on conditional bail and another 15-year-old boy will face no further action.

In an unrelated attack a couple of hours earlier, a 21-year-old man suffered life-changing injuries when he was set upon in Kirkdale.

He was said to have been chased by men in Jeeps before being attacked with a machete.

His hand was seriously wounded in the incident on Chirkdale Street just before 6pm.

Reports from the scene suggested the man's hand had been "chopped off", but police have since confirmed this was not the case.

However, the victim was set to undergo surgery to repair a significant wound.

The man's body was found just before 12.55pm and police and forensic officers attended the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the man's death are not yet known.

Investigations are ongoing and police are working to identify the man's next of kin.

Eastbourne Road in Southport was cordoned off after a man's body was discovered on Thursday afternoon.

The death of the 32-year-old initially sparked a murder investigation and the arrest of two men, aged 32 and 23.

A forensic tent was set up on the street, where air ambulances had been seen landing close by.

On Friday, Merseyside Police confirmed it was no longer treating the man's death as suspicious and the two arrested men were released with no further action.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.
