Stabbing victim 'collapsed on neighbour's steps' after attack

A man stabbed outside a house reportedly staggered over a wall and collapsed outside the front door of the neighbouring house.

Residents on Carr Lane East in Croxteth opened their front doors to the violent scenes at around 6.30pm on Saturday, March 11 after the 24-year-old was stabbed. Emergency services including Merseyside Police and crews from North West Ambulance Service rushed to the quiet street where they found the victim with life-threatening stab wounds.

An ambulance took the victim to hospital for treatment for chest and leg injuries. A Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed his condition is critical.

A 44-year-old man and two women, aged 46 and 49, all from Liverpool, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The women were also arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent.

An investigation was launched and a substantial police presence remained in the area on Sunday afternoon. A blue forensic tent had been erected outside the front door of the house and a tarpaulin had been pulled across the entrance.

Two separate tarpaulins had been placed outside the front of a neighbouring house - one outside the front door and a second in the middle of the driveway. A local woman, who asked not to be named, said she had been told the victim had stumbled over the wall and collapsed outside the neighbouring house.

The woman said: "Someone told me they saw him on the doorstep but didn't know what had happened to him. He must have fallen over the wall and ended up there. The wall was all broken down so he must have staggered over and ended up on the steps."

A local man who lived close to the incident told the ECHO he had heard "noises" before "around a dozen" police cars arrived at the road. The road was quiet on Sunday afternoon with many people choosing to remain inside with their curtains closed.

Several pedestrians cutting through the road to get to Dwerryhouse Lane stopped on their journey to watch several forensic officers continue to work inside the cordon. A Matrix van and two scientific support vehicles remained parked on the road and two police community support officers stood guard.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed an investigation is underway and officers would be remaining in the area to carry out CCTV, house-to-house and witness enquiries. All three suspects remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: "We are currently in the early stages of an investigation after a man was stabbed last night. We believe there was an altercation at an address on Carr Lane East that has resulted in a man suffering stab wounds.

"We currently have three people in custody but our enquiries remain ongoing. If you have any information that could assist us with our ongoing investigation, including dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident, please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23000208420.
