Stabbed Asda security guard in hospital as police release full details

A security guard suffered knife wounds to his leg and arm after an 'altercation' with a suspected shop lifter at a supermarket in Bootle.

The emergency services were called out to the Asda supermarket on Strand Road at around 6.50pm today following reports of an altercation between a suspected shoplifter and a security guard.

Police told the ECHO that a security guard suffered 'superficial stab wounds to his leg and arm.'

He was treated at the scene by the ambulance service before being taken to hospital.

Shortly after, officers detained a 25-year-old man in nearby Gemini Road. He has been taken to hospital for assessment of possible injuries, following which he will be taken to a police station for questioning.
