St Vincent's Hospital among 3 top busiest in Ireland as trolley figures creep toward record high

A Dublin hospital is among the top three busiest in Ireland as trolley figures creep toward another record high.

According to the INMO, there are 640 people without beds in hospitals across the country this morning.

In Dublin, 46 of those are on trolleys in St Vincent's University Hospital on the Merrion Road.

There are ten children among those patients, with eight of them in Temple Street, and one in each of Tallaght and Crumlin.

The highest-ever figure was set on both the 6 and 7 of January 2020 when 760 patients were on trolleys.

INMO General Secretary, Phil Ní Sheaghdha, said: “This is a dangerous and unacceptable figure, with worryingly high numbers of patients without beds across the country.

“When Ireland votes later this week, health will rightly be a major electoral priority. All parties and political leaders must commit to lifting the recruitment freeze, funding safe staffing levels, and fully implementing the Sláintecare reform package.

“This is an intolerable situation for vulnerable patients and frontline workers alike. Nobody should have to endure this in a modern health service.”

Here's the latest trolley figures across Dublin:

  • Beaumont - 15
  • Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown - 14
  • Mater - 21
  • St James's - 15
  • St Vincent's - 46
  • Tallaght University Hospital - 30
