St Petersburg metro explosions: Vladimir Putin visiting city as scores of casualties reported in blast

Vladimir Putin is visiting St Petersburg, as deadly explosions are reported to have injured scores of people.

The Russian president was due to meet with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, in the city when the explosions happened. It isn't clear whether Mr Putin was already in the city at the time of the blasts.

Mr Putin has been informed of the blasts, RIA reported, citing a Kremlin spokesperson.

The subway in the Russian city of St. Petersburg is reporting that several people have been injured in an explosion on a subway train.

The subway's administration says several stations in the northern Russian city have been closed and that an evacuation is underway Monday afternoon.

Social media users posted photographs from one subway station in the city centre, showing people lying on the floor and a train with a mangled door nearby.
