St Peter’s boss Paul McTaggart feels the West of Scotland League might have a decision to make soon regarding a temporary halt to play.
As coronavirus cases continue to soar in Scotland, Renfrewshire’s semi-professional clubs are still due to return to action this week after a short winter break.
Paisley club St Peter’s are set to face BSC Glasgow, but McTaggart believes a month-long circuit breaker might do the leagues the world of good instead.
McTaggart told Express Sport: “We’re due to play BSC at home this Saturday and while we want the game to go ahead, we need to be safe and responsible.
“At the end of the day I’m responsible for the players and we have a duty of care to them and their families.
“I think the league will have a decision to make very soon because the cases are just going up and up.
“If we shut down until the end of January, that would give us more of a chance to get the games on further down the line because a lot would be postponed anyway due to the amount of players testing positive and self-isolating.
“We started the season early in case another serious outbreak happened. We’ve still got a lot of months left to get the season finished because of that.
“We’re preparing as if the games are going to go ahead, but it’s hard to ignore what’s going on outside of football.
“At the end of the day coronavirus can have big implications on jobs and families. We need to be as sensible and as safe as we can be.”
