St Pauls Carnival 2019 aftermath: Pictures show laughing gas canisters, booze cans and mess

St Paul's is looking a little worse for wear after yesterday's carnival.

Plastic bottles were dumped in huge quantities, while a high number of laughing gas canisters can also be seen on the streets this morning (July 7).

One picture shows the bust of poet Alfred Fagon, on the corner of Ashley Road and Grosvenor Road, with an unfortunate makeover.

UPDATE: Carnival organisers say clean-up 'a priority' as mess cleared

The statue was left wearing a lop-sided pair of spectacles and holding a set of keys, next to an empty bottle of E&J brandy.

Despite this, the day was a wonderful celebration as feathery headdresses, drummers, DJs, extravagant outfits and people of all ages came out in force.

With four stages catering to a variety of music tastes, it was a day to remember.

Here is our gallery showing the aftermath of the event.

This year marked the 51st anniversary of the event and the procession kicked off at 12pm.

We have put together a gallery of the most stunning outfits and floats at the carnival.

You can also look back at our recap of how the carnival unfolded in our live blog of the day.

A carnival spokeswoman said: "Yesterday's St Pauls Carnival was a great success and we would like to thank everyone involved and, particularly the residents of St Pauls.

“We are all working hard now in the clean-up operation and many areas have been cleared already.

"We would like to reassure residents that we are prioritising the clean-up and ask for patience as we know how important it is. Bristol Waste operatives are managing the operation and can be contacted at www.bristolwastecompany.co.uk/"
