St Paul's Carnival hero dances with Cheryl Cole in The Greatest Dancer

The man whose dancing at St Paul's Carnival went viral last year has made a triumphant appearance on The Greatest Dancer.

Darius Smith from Bicester, a 21-year-old social media worker who calls himself Dancing Darius, became an Internet hit at last year's carnival with his energetic moves.

He appeared this evening (January 18) on the BBC talent show with his dad Gary, whose stage name is DJ G, while his 88-year-old grandmother Icolyn watched on proudly.

Darius said: "We want to make people happy. There are so many bad things happening in the world.

"We just want to take people out of that situation and give them some joy really."

His dad blasted out Egypt's In the Morning (Let Your Love Come In) from his deck, while Darius once again showcased the talent people in Bristol got to see last year.

Giving her assessment, judge Cheryl Cole said: "Were you the greatest dancer? No, definitely not.

"But you were the greatest vibes of the evening, so congratulations."

Fellow judge Todrick Hall added: "It made me and everybody in the audience want to party."

That was the cue for Cole, Hall and the two other judges, Oti Mabuse and Matthew Morrison, to get up on stage and share a dance with Darius and Gary.

Though another dancer, Hannah, was chosen to progress to the next round by Morrison, it was an unforgettable evening for the father and son.
