St Patrick's Day: Where is the cheapest place in the US for a pint of Guinness?

St Patrick's Day is the most important time of the year for Guinness, with people in more than 150 countries around the world usually sipping a pint of the black stuff.

It is estimated that around 13 million pints of Guinness are sold on the day every year during the international celebrations.

As with 2020, this year's holiday is set to be a timid affair as a result of the pandemic, particularly in Ireland.

However, restrictions are less stringent in some countries, including the United States where certain states are welcoming customers back to bars and restaurants.

The US plays host to millions of Irish expats and those with roots in the emerald isle, not least the current President Joe Biden.

Many of these will be seeking a pint of Guinness tomorrow, and residents of some states will be lucky enough to buy the drink at a steal for just $3 (around €2.50) - according to research from Casino.org.

The US states with the cheapest and most expensive prices for a pint of Guinness have been revealed, with the average cost of the drink surging to $8 (€6.70) in one location.

Montana offers the best bang for your buck on a pint of Guinness, where the average cost is just $4.33 (€3.65) per pint and as low as $3 in some bars in the region.

The average price in Oregon and Maine is also under $5 (€4.20) and the least expensive pints can also be found for $3 each, according to research from Casino.org.

In a further ten states, drinkers will pay less than $6 (€5) on average for a pint of Guinness.

These are: Michigan ($5.06), Indiana ($5.63), Alabama ($5.64), Mississippi ($5.65), West Virginia ($5.67), Ohio ($5.80), Iowa ($5.83), Louisiana ($5.83), New Mexico ($5.85), Wisconsin ($5.92).

The majority of US states sell pints for around $6 to $7 (or €5 to €5.90) each.

In order, the cheapest are: Missouri ($6), Idaho ($6), Tennessee ($6.08), South Dakota ($6.13), Maryland ($6.13), Kansas ($6.17), New Hampshire ($6.20), Virginia ($6.21), Oklahoma ($6.25), Utah ($6.31), North Carolina ($6.31), Kentucky ($6.33), Hawaii ($6.39), Pennsylvania ($6.40), Arkansas ($6.50).

These are followed by: South Carolina ($6.63), Wyoming ($6.67), Minnesota ($6.69), Georgia ($6.75), Connecticut ($6.75), Rhode Island ($6.81), Vermont ($6.88), Massachusetts ($6.91) Arizona ($6.94).

11 of the 12 most expensive states all sell a pint of Guinness for around $7 (€5.90) to $8 (€6.70) each.

They are: Nebraska ($7.07), North Dakota ($7.08), Illinois ($7.11), New York ($7.20), Florida ($7.29), Delaware ($7.44), Texas ($7.50), California ($7.61), Washington ($7.67), New Jersey ($7.67), Colorado ($7.75).
