St Patrick’s Day is coming up on March 17 and with it falling on a Friday this year it’s set to be a big one.

There’s already plenty of events confirmed for Liverpool and we’ve rounded up some of the best you can plan for now. Liverpool will celebrate St Patrick’s Day in style, with the annual parade returning to the city during the day.

The city’s Irish pubs and bars will be getting into the spirit of things, with plenty of Guinness on tap and live music to create a party atmosphere. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the biggest St Patrick’s Day events coming to Liverpool for 2023 and we'll be adding more as they're announced:

St Patrick’s Day parade through Liverpool

The St Patrick’s Day parade is returning to the city on March 17, assembling at the Old Irish Centre on Mount Pleasant from 2.30pm. The parade will move off at 3.30pm and will go down Hope Street, Upper Duke Street, Berry Street, Renshaw Street, Ranelagh Street, Hannover Street and Seel Street.

It will finish at Fitzgerald's Irish Bar on Slater Street. Along the route, various bands will perform, keeping entertained with traditional Irish music. The Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band will perform, with others yet to be confirmed. You can find out more about the event and its route via the organisers' Facebook page here.

The Liffey reopening

The Liffey pub, part of the Grand Central building on Renshaw Street, has been closed since the end of March 2022, but is set to reopen following a £200,000 refurbishment.

Work has been taking place on the pub over the last few weeks and its owners have now confirmed it is set reopen this Friday, March 17, in time for St Patrick’s Day. The pub will be sticking to its Irish roots with the “perfect pint” of Guinness in traditional jars and Tayto crisps behind the bar.

Bands will perform live music throughout the day. The Liffey’s new general manager Steven Crosbie said: “I’m expecting us to get through around 15 barrels of Guinness, which is roughly one and a half thousand pints. All the staff have been trained to pour the perfect pint in proper Guinness jars. Liverpool drinkers are a knowledgeable lot and know that they need to let the pint settle to create that perfect creamy head – tempting as it is to get stuck in immediately.”

Bottomless Guinness at Crazy Pedro’s

Crazy Pedro's is offering 90 minutes of bottomless Guinness to honour St Patrick's Day. You can book for 90 minutes of unlimited Guinness for you and your friends, or if Guinness isn't your thing, you can have any of the other drinks included in its bottomless brunch drink menu.

In its post on Instagram, Crazy Pedro's said: "BOTTOMLESS GUINNESS FOR PADDY'S DAY IS BACK. Let's Go. So Many Of You Drank Endless Guinness (For 90 Mins Obvs), Ate Pizza & Got Merry With Pedro Last Year.

"Ped's Bridge | Brum | LIV Only. How? Book In For Bottomless On Friday 17th March Via The Bookings Page On The Website. See You There - Sláinte. (Can't Wait For All The Guinness Police To Turn Up With Their Domage + Schtick)".

You can book your slot at Liverpool's Crazy Pedro's here.

PINS rooftop St Patrick’s Day party

Duke Street venue PINS Social Club is hosting numerous events to celebrate St Patrick’s Day including a party on the roof. March 17 will see a day of entertainment on what PINS claim is Liverpool’s "largest heated and covered roof top bar."

The bar will take "inspiration from Irish American themes", with whisky shots, a Guinness bar and food all part of the fun. There will be music, including a fiddle band, a DJ and pop up tattoo studio from Three Six Nine Tattoos. Shamrock tattoo anyone?

The party starts at 12pm, with live music from 1.45pm and the DJ set from 6pm until late. Inside the main bar downstairs, there’s live music from the PINS Friday Night Bandstand until midnight, with a Happy Hour from 5-7pm.

PINS General Manager Jamie Finn said: “We’re really looking forward to St. Patrick’s this year – it’s got a long tradition in the city and last year The Roof was the place to be.

He added: "The pop up tattoo studio and entertainment planned really sets us apart from the rest, there will be nowhere better to be.”

Entry to the event is free. Booth and group packages can be booked via the PINS website here.

Bingo Lingo St Paddy’s Day Special

First thing to know about this is that it’s taking place on Saturday (February 18) not St Patrick’s Day itself. At least it will give you an excuse to carry on the celebrations, with a night of Irish themed drinks, cheesy music and prizes to be won.

Taking place in the Baltic Triangle’s Camp and Furnace, Bingo Lingo’s St Paddy’s Day special starts at 6pm and for those with enough staying power the night ends at 11pm. Tickets are £15.65 and can be purchased at Skiddle.

St Patrick’s Day special at Electrik Warehouse

A Medication X Sh*t Indie Disco party is being held to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in what’s expected to be a sell out night. Promising ‘great craic and great times’, clubbers can expect leaping leprechauns, green balloons, daft inflatables, big silly hats, oversized green sunglasses, Tayto crisps, green candy floss and more.

There will be five rooms of music, taking over Electrik and Electrik Loft, including the best new and classic indie tunes, throwback 00s/10s anthems, R&B and Hip Hop bangers, dance and rave classics with lasers and light shows and more. Those attended will get free Irish sunglasses, Irish flags and hats. There will be confetti canons and party poppers, inflatables, glow sticks and even free Koka noodles for the ‘end of the night crowd’.

The event takes place on Friday, March 17 at Electrik on Wood Street. Tickets are £3-£5 and available here.

Tell Me Ma! St Patrick's Party at Punch Tarmeys

Punch Tarmey’s in the Baltic Triangle has planned what it calls an ‘Irish extravaganza’ for St Patrick’s Day and right across the weekend. The line up includes live music from Irish bands and acoustic singers.

After all the excitement of St Patrick’s Day, the bar will be back open on Saturday and showing the Six Nations Ireland v England game live on 18 screens including two 8ft video walls. No need to book. Find our more here.

Here's the full line-up for the Punch Tarmey’s Paddy’s Day festival of fun:

March 19 – Mother’s Day Irish themed celebrations from 3pm until late with entertainment inside and in The Courrtyard including Punch favourite Jack Bennett.

Paddy's Weekender at Scruffy Murphys

Just a few hundred yards from the Cavern Quarter, Scruffy Murphys opened its doors just nine months ago and the bar is planning a big weekend of events for its first St Patrick's Day. The Harrington Street venue has planned a 'Paddy's Weekender' kicking off on St Patrick's Day itself, with homemade Irish Stew available all day, live music from 2pm and the Cheltenham festival on the screens. At 4pm there will be a dance performance from the Loughran School of Irish Dance.

On Saturday the bar will be showing Chelsea v Everton live, Ireland v England Six Nations live and there will be live music from 5pm till late. Then on Sunday, there's Rockeoke from 7pm, where people can enjoy a karaoke experience, with an experienced live band. Scruffy Murphy’s has 17 screens showing live sport, two pool tables, and arcade machines including Time Crisis, Wrestlefest, Ninja Turtles, Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat.

Nicola Leppert, Business Development Manager for AR Leisure said: “We have only been open since last summer but already we have built up a great following. We look forward to this, our first, St Patrick's Day. We decided to make a weekend of the party atmosphere with the big day falling on a Friday.”

Salt Dog Slims Paddy's Day Party

Salt Dog Slims is throwing its annual Paddy's Day party on Friday, March 17. The party, sponsored by Slane Irish whiskey, will be an epic night of festivities with Irish music, Guinness, Irish whiskey on tap, and loads of random prizes to be won throughout the night in true Salt Dogs fashion. The bar has even got its very own limited edition Paddy's Day t-shirts available to buy onsite (profits going to charity). Tickets are not required.

Paddy's Day bottomless brunch at Red Door

The Berry Street bar is hosting a Paddy’s Day themed bottomless brunch on Friday to celebrate one of the biggest days in the Scouse and Irish calendar. Book a slot from 3pm to 5pm or from 6pm until 8pm and enjoy unlimited pizza and cocktails, with beer and Prosecco options available for £40 per person. Of course no Paddy’s Day celebration would be complete without unlimited Guinness on the menu. Live music includes Owen Brown, an Irish Folk Band and DJ Dom Dunn.

The bottomless drinks menu includes: Bottomless Guinness, Espresso Martini, Pornstar Martini, Aperol Spritz, Jameson and Ginger Ale. If you can't make Friday, the same package is available to join in the fun on Saturday, March 18 as well.
