St. Pat's hoping to take out European frustrations on Chelsea in blockbuster friendly

St. Pat's hope to take out some of their European frustration on Premier League giants Chelsea tomorrow.

Richmond Park is already sold out for what is Frank Lampard’s second game as Chelsea boss following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Bohemians.

Chelsea are the reigning Europa League holders but Saints are reeling following their defeat in the same competition on Thursday.

Harry Kenny’s charges lost 2-0 at home to Swedish side Norrkopping in the first-leg of their first qualifying round tie.

Midfielder Conor Clifford is a former Chelsea player and captained the Blues to Youth Cup success in 2010 when he scored the winning goal against Aston Villa.

“It'll be good to see a few of the old faces as the kitman and a lot of the medical staff are still the same,” said the Dubliner who left Chelsea in 2013.

“I loved my time at Chelsea. I won the Youth Cup, played a lot of reserve games and trained regularly with first-team squad and the best players in the world.”

Clifford is looking forward to crossing paths with Lampard once again after revealing how the Blues legend was a helping hand.

“Lamps looked after me really well,” he said. “We sat down for lunch every day and we’d stay out after training to strike the ball.

“He was great with the young players. He’s such a legend of the game and it’ll be great to catch up, say hello and ask him for a trial! ".
