St Pat's confirm signing of West Ham goalkeeper

West Ham goalkeeper Joseph Anang has completed his loan move to St Pat’s.

Mirror Sport revealed on Tuesday that the Saints had agreed a deal for the 21-year-old to replace Vitezslav Jaros after his return to Liverpool.

Ghanian-born, Anangh has represented England at Under-20 level and spent the first half of this season on loan to League Two side Stevenage.

Anang has been at West Ham since 2017 and signed a new four-year contract in December 2020.

“I know St Pat's is one of the biggest clubs in Ireland and I'm really excited to be here,” he said after his switch to the FAI Cup holders.

“I heard about the interest a couple of weeks ago and spoke to Alfie Lewis, who I played with at West Ham, he loved his time in Ireland and said great things about St Pat's.”

Saints boss Tim Clancy said: “We’re delighted to get a goalkeeper the calibre of Joseph into the club. He has huge potential and comes with excellent recommendations. P

“Pat Jennings (goalkeeper Coach) has had Joseph on the radar and to be able to secure his services is massive for us. We’re really looking forward to working with him."

And St Pat’s technical director Alan Mathews said: “We’ve been tracking his career for the last couple of years. I’ve no doubt he’ll be a great success for us."

West Ham goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero believes Anang will thrive with more first-team football.

“He needs to play,” said Valero. “He has been to Stevenage in the first part of the season, he has played 18 games, and now he needs to gain more experience.

“He’s been with England U18s and U20s. He’s a good prospect and, at this stage, he’s been through the West Ham U18s and U23s.

"The next stage is to go play on loan and prove yourself and keep developing your game and character as a professional goalkeeper.”
