St Modwen plans new job-creating £20m industrial scheme

A new £20 million industrial development in south Birmingham could create 300 new jobs, according to the company behind it.

St Modwen has revealed plans for a 155,000 sq ft warehouse, including 12,626 sq ft of office space, called Longbridge 155.

It will be located at The Cofton Centre, a 35-acre managed business estate in Groveley Lane, and is due for completion in the autumn. Developers say it is aiming to be net zero carbon in its operation.

The warehouse will have what the Birmingham-based regeneration specialist is calling its 'Swan Standard' commitment which is a set of guidelines with a focus on responsible building practices aimed at targeting net zero carbon in operation.

Polly Troughton, managing director at St Modwen Logistics, said: "We are committed to investing in projects that deliver quality, sustainable developments which support local economic growth and generate jobs.

"Our Swan Standard philosophy is core to our sustainability and responsible business practices.

"This sets the benchmark for our future developments, is a positive step forward towards our net zero carbon ambitions and offers minimal carbon impact for our customers."

St Modwen, which is also headquartered in Longbridge, is carrying out a long-running regeneration of the town on the site of the former MG Rover factories following its collapse in 2005.

Previous projects have included Longbridge Technology Park, the Midlands' largest Marks & Spencer store, a new Sainsbury's and Bournville College among other work.
