St Mirren vs Motherwell OFF as Covid-hit Buddies tell SPFL they cannot fulfil fixture

Today's clash between St Mirren and Motherwell has has been scrapped because the Buddies only have 12 players available.

Jim Goodwin's side were already dealing with a second coronavirus outbreak with two players testing positive and a third self-isolating.

But now the fixture has been scrapped with St Mirren unable to fulfil the fixture with four of the 12 available goalkeepers.

Scottish football has battled through a host of covid-related flashpoints and St Mirren themselves were forced into signing Bobby Zlamal last month after a previous out break among their goalkeepers.

The SPFL will now launch an investigation after the call-off.

An SPFL statement read: "This afternoon’s Scottish Premiership match between St Mirren and Motherwell has been postponed after St Mirren informed the SPFL that they could not fulfil the fixture.

"St Mirren have informed the SPFL that, due to a number of positive tests for Covid-19 amongst their playing squad and coaching staff, they have only 12 registered fit players, including four goalkeepers, available for today’s game against Motherwell – and that, as a result, St Mirren are unable to fulfil today’s fixture.

"As a result, and in line with standard procedure, the SPFL have postponed the fixture pending an investigation into the events at St Mirren."
