St Mirren v Hibs test event could be approved today with SPFL set for showdown talks with Scottish Government

Hibs could find out today whether fans will be allowed to attend their upcoming clash with St Mirren.

Jack Ross takes his team to Paisley to face his former club this Saturday, and it’s one of the Scottish Premiership fixtures that could be used as a test event to examine how best to get a limited number of fans back into stadiums.

If the Scottish Government gives the green light, then a small number of home supporters will be permitted entry to the Simple Digital Arena as clubs test their COVID-19 protocols.

The Buddies, along with Ross County and Aberdeen have all submitted proposals to the SPFL in the hope that they’ll get the okay.

Celtic’s home encounter v Motherwell a week past Saturday had been put forward as a test event, but the Hoops’ request was booted out by Government officials, while Edinburgh Rugby’s meeting with Glasgow Warrior’s the previous evening was given the go ahead.

Further Celtic home games, plus Rangers v Dundee United were also ruled out while Glasgow’s coronavirus restrictions remain in place following a recent spike in cases.

League bosses will discuss proposals for a safe fan return with Scottish Government officials on a Zoom call later, whihc could see Hibs play in front of a crowd for the first time since March.

Should they be given the green-light up to 750 fans could be allowed into the matches. A ballot will be held among home season ticket holders to decide who gets in.

Aberdeen chief Dave Cormack said on Twitter: “I just spoke to Neil Doncaster at SPFL and we’re hopeful of getting the green light on Monday to host two test events. Next Saturday against Kilmarnock with 300 fans and the following Saturday against Motherwell with 750 fans.

"A big thank you to all the clubs, the SPFL and the SFA for all the hard work over the last couple of months to get us to where we are today."
