St Mirren v Hibs in doubt after positive COVID-19 test result from Buddies first team player

Hibs’ weekend trip to St Mirren is in doubt after a first team player at the Paisley club tested positive for COVID-19.

Jack Ross is due to take his Easter Road squad back to his old club on Saturday but could now face an anxious wait after the test result came back.

The individual is self isolating and the Buddies are confident that it hasn’t spread to the rest of their squad, and the Scottish Premiership clash will go ahead, reports the Daily Record.

However, the players and coaching staff will be continually tested over the next two days to make sure, with the Scottish football Joint Response Group providing guidance on how they should proceed.

There are already increased lockdown restrictions imposed on the Renfrewshire area after a rise in the number of cases, and Saints suffered a test scare before the start of the season after seven positive results were returned, although in turned out six were false.

Hibs have also had their own testing issues after a pre-season bounce game with Ross County had to be canceled after results were delayed.

They also suffered after Alex Gogic returned an inconclusive result prior to their last game against Aberdeen.

A second test showed the Cypriot midfielder didn’t have the virus, but was still required to self-isolate and missed out on a first cap for his country as well as his club’s defeat against the Dons.
