St Mirren and Kilmarnock to fight SPFL Covid breach punishment as clubs look to overturn verdict

St Mirren and Kilmarnock will fight SPFL punishments handed to the club for breaches of Covid guidelines.

The Buddies were hit with two 3-0 defeats and a suspended £40K fine by the SPFL after being found guilty of a number of breaches of Covid-19 protocols.

Games against Motherwell and Hamilton were originally postponed in October following an outbreak in Paisley which meant they could not field a team.

The Accies clash decision in particular has been key to the league, with the forfeited game coupled with Brian Rice's sides win over Kilmarnock seeing the Saints slip to bottom spot in the Premiership.

Killie followed the Buddies by revealing they will attempt to reverse the sanctions handed to the club by the governing body.

They were hammered by the SPFL after rule breaches led to the top flight fixture with Motherwell being called off.

The Saints club statement today read: "St Mirren Football Club can today confirm that it will be appealing the decision of the SPFL tribunal on Thursday December 3rd 2020.

"The club is unable to make any further comment on this matter until the proceedings are complete, at which point we will update our supporters."

A Kilmarnock statement echoed the sentiments, adding: "The club can confirm an appeal will be submitted. We will make no further comment at this time and will update supporters when proceedings are completed."
