St Mirren tie talented midfielder Cammy MacPherson down with two-year contract extension

St Mirren prospect Cammy MacPherson says he "couldn't be happier" after extending his stay at St Mirren.

The academy graduate has made his way through the Ralston ranks, making his first team debut aged 18 in a 2-0 away win against Dundee in January 2017.

The 20-year-old has made 28 appearances in total for the Buddies, scoring his first goal for the Saints in a 2-1 defeat at home to Aberdeen in December 2018.

He told stmirren.com: "I'm really happy and to get it done now I couldn’t be any happier.

"I want to get into the team and if I can get into the team I want to be able to keep myself there and become a mainstay.

"I feel like I have matured a lot and grown a lot since I made my debut. I’m much more used to the demands of first team football."

Saints manager Jim Goodwin revealed he was "delighted" to have Cammy signed up to an extended contract that will see him tied to the club until the summer of 2022.

He said: "Cammy is a player who has come on leaps and bounds.

"We were humming and hawing during the summer about whether we should send Cammy out on loan but he really impressed us with his attitude and how he trains.

"He’s a great kid. He does things in the right manner and is a very good professional. We are delighted to have extended his contract.

"He’s a big part of what we are trying to do here. He’s got great energy, really good fitness levels, fantastic technically and has a little bit of aggression."
