St Mirren striker Danny Mullen toasts the "best week of his life"

St Mirren striker Danny Mullen toasted the “best week of his life” as he celebrated Saints’ survival following the birth of daughter, Sophia.

The 24-year-old struck the equaliser in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Dundee United before racing off to celebrate with his thumb in his mouth.

Mullen says it’s a week he will never ever forget as he looks forward to what the future has in store.

He told the Paisley Daily Express : “It was the best day of my life a few days ago when Sophia was born, and it just turned into the best week of my life.

“It is something I will never forget. It was a whirlwind few days but I wouldn’t change anything for the world.

“I’ve always said staying in the Premiership is where this club belongs.”

Mullen endured a roller coaster of a campaign littered with frustration as well as elation.

The former Livingston man appeared to take to the top flight with ease as he scored twice in the opening day win over Dundee.

But a combination of injuries and finding himself down the pecking order meant he was forced to bide his time.

However, Mullen says it has all been worth it after playing a massive role in the side’s late resurgence.

He said: “It was all worth it in the end. It has been really tough for me this season but in tough times it is all about coming out the end even stronger.

“You learn from it and have to focus on the end goal.

“The start of the season we were losing games because it just wasn’t happening.

“Then from being injured to then sitting on the bench and waiting for my chance to come – it was very frustrating.

“When I did come back into the side I took my chance and I don’t think we have been beaten since.

“I always take that as a positive and I am already looking forward to next season.

“Since the Aberdeen game in February, I think we have really pushed on just because of the fight and spirit in the team.

“But next season we will just need to work on it. We will strengthen and look forward to it.”
