St Mirren striker Cody Cooke edging closer to first team comeback

St Mirren striker Cody Cooke is edging closer to a return to action as his comeback kicked up a gear this week.

The 26-year-old has missed the entire Premiership campaign so far after picking up a serious knee injury during the Buddies Betfred Cup clash with Albion Rovers.

After training with the first team for the past three weeks, the frontman managed 45 minutes in a bounce game against Celtic before completing 60 minutes against Hamilton Accies in a reserve fixture on Tuesday at Ralston.

Manager Jim Goodwin is delighted with the progress he is making, but reiterated that he will not be rushed back.

He said: “He played a half against Celtic last week and played an hour against Hamilton.

“It’s about trying to gradually build him up. He’s back training with the group again but it takes time.

“He’s not had a pre season, so it’s trying to have that pre-season at this time of year and get the games in at the same time.

“But he’s making great progress. We’re all really pleased for him and glad that it all seems to be behind him now.”
