St Mirren star Jamie McGrath's suitors told to stump up or jog on

Jamie McGrath's suitors have been told to conduct their business quickly or forget about signing the Republic of Ireland ace.

English and Scottish clubs are tracking the St Mirren star and Buddies boss Jim Goodwin doesn’t want to lose him.

But the former Irish international has also refused to stand in the way of the ex-Dundalk and St Pat’s man progressing his career at a higher level.

Particularly so after only breaking into the Ireland senior team last month with Stephen Kenny turning to his former Lilywhites player for the win in Andorra.

McGrath hit 17 goals - 10 of them penalties - in the SPL last season and that has attracted the attention of ‘serious clubs’, according to Goodwin.

And he is standing by his line that it will take an “outrageous offer” for St Mirren to sell the talented newcomer to international ranks.

But with the SPL season kicking off on Saturday week, Goodwin today warned interested parties to get the finger - out or forget about signing his star player.

The Waterford man, who has already rejected offers for the 24-year-old, said: “If there are teams serious about the wee man, put a serious bid on the table.

“Then we will see what we can get done.

"But one thing I will say to anybody out there who is showing an interest - if we start going into the latter stages of the window, if we start going into the last week and there's only a few days remaining, then there's no point coming with a bid at that point because it won't leave me enough time to replace him.”

Goodwin continued: "Things are only really hotting up in England now and you will probably see a bit more business this week and into the following week.

"But we are in a comfortable position with Jamie. The dialogue is there between me and him, we are very transparent in terms of what is happening.

“Jamie is not kicking my door down forcing us to accept any kind of offer and he's moving from one agency to another, so all that takes time.”
