St Mirren snap up Rangers prospect Daniel Finlayson on loan after losing captain on deadline day

St Mirren have sealed a loan deal for highly-rated Rangers defender Daniel Finlayson.

The 19-year-old joins the Buddies on a one-year loan deal, with the Paisley side having an option to buy at the end of the season.

The right-back has spent his entire youth career with Rangers, captaining the side to Glasgow Cup glory in 2018.

The Northern Ireland under-19 cap was recently on loan in America, turning out for Orange County Soccer Club in Los Angeles.

Jim Goodwin has made no secret of his desire to bolster his defence, with midfielders having to plug gaps in recent weeks due to suspensions in the Buddie back-line.

A St Mirren statement read: "St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Daniel Finlayson on a season-long loan from Rangers FC with an option to buy at the end of the season for an undisclosed fee subject to clearance.

"Capped by Northern Ireland at U19 level, the 19-year-old defender joins Jim Goodwin’s side after ending his loan spell at USL Championship side Orange County SC."

The club have also lost a player on deadline day, with Kyle Magennis' move to Hibs confirmed this afternoon.
