St Mirren snap up Kristian Dennis as Jim Goodwin bolsters his attacking options

St Mirren have strengthened their frontline after signing Kristian Dennis.

The Buddies have been on the lookout for a new striker over the summer, with Jon Obika and Junior Morias the only two recognised hitmen in Jim Goodwin's squad.

Now they have some competition up front after the Saints bagged former Chesterfield forward Dennis from Notts County on a two-year deal.

Goodwin told stmirren.com: "Kristian is has been on the radar for three or four months.

"He was involved in the play-offs with Notts County and with that over he became available and we are delighted now to get it over the line.

"It’s been well documented that we wanted another striker. Bringing in Kristian gives us three good options and added to that we have young Lewis Jamieson who will make it four.

"His record in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net is very good.

"If you look at his stats over the last four or five years he’s averaging a goal every other game which is exactly what we are needing.

"He is a proven goalscorer, he is a great age and a natural finisher."

Dennis, 30, came through the youth ranks at Macclesfield Town before successful spells at Stockport County and Chesterfield.

As well as a short loan spell at English League Two side Grimsby Town, Dennis has most recently been playing in the English National League with Notts County.

He played in the final of the National League promotion play-offs at Wembley at the start of August, but was unable to stop the Magpies losing out on promotion after a 3-1 defeat to Harrogate Town.

Goodwin had put in an ambitious bid to take PSV talent Joel Piroe on loan for the season, but the confirmation of Dennis' signing looks to have put paid to that move.
