St Mirren snap up former Liverpool youth player Nathan Sheron on loan deal

St Mirren have bolstered their squad with the season-long loan capture of former Liverpool youth prospect Nathan Sheron.

The 22-year-old Fleetwood Town man will spend the 2020/21 Premiership campaign with the Buddies as manager Jim Goodwin beefs up his midfield options.

He becomes the club's third signing after former Motherwell defender Richard Tait and ex-Rangers keeper Jak Alnwick made the move to the Simple Digital Arena.

Speaking to stmirren.com, he said: "I've had nothing but good vibes from the club and it's a really exciting time for myself.

"I got off the phone with the gaffer and he really sold the club to me. It was brilliant and I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"I'm a defensive midfielder. I'll work hard, I'll get myself stuck in and put up a fight."

Goodwin believes Sheron, who spent time at Walsall on loan at the start of 2020 and came through the youth academy at Anfield, will give him options across the park.

He said: "Nathan is coming to us as a holding midfielder but he can play at centre-half and he has played at right-back in the past also.

"I felt last season that we were missing someone in the middle of the pitch that could be disciplined, that can sit in front of the back four, break things up and be difficult for the opposition to play against.

"He’s got great legs, he’s got great energy and I think the supporters will love what they see.

"Nathan’s a great addition and hopefully another couple more to come after that in the not too distant future."
