St Mirren seek clarification after SFA refuse to grant club licence to enter European competition

The Buddies are asking the SFA for answers after they were refused the UEFA Licence Award necessary to compete in Europe.

St Mirren would qualify for the final Europa League play-off round if they were to go on and win this season's Scottish Cup, with Jim Goodwin 's side facing St Johnstone this Sunday for a place in the final.

They would also drop down into the group stage of the new Europa Conference League if they lost that initial play-off, giving them guaranteed European football until December.

However, the SFA have denied them the award necessary to compete on the continent in their club licensing awards which were announced last month.

Despite earning gold status in their overall award, picking up gold level in the ground, first team and legal, admin, financial and codes categories, they were still refused the UEFA Licence Award.

The only category they failed to achieve gold status in was in the youth section where they picked up silver, exactly the same results as St Johnstone who were still awarded the UEFA Licence.

Ross County, Livingston and Hamilton were all similarly rejected European entry, with the Lions still in with a chance of qualifying for the Europa Conference League due to their Premiership position.

It's understood the Paisley club are seeking clarification as to why they've been turned down for the crucial award, with millions of pounds of prize money at stake should Goodwin lead his side to Scottish Cup glory later this month.
