St Mirren reignite Celtic striker interest with Bayo back on Jim Goodwin's radar

Saints boss Jim Goodwin is still on the lookout for more offensive options as the club rekindled their interest in Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

The Buddies made the perfect start to the new campaign with a 1-0 win over Livingston on Saturday but are still short of numbers up front, with Jon Obika and Junior Morias the club’s only two recognised strikers.

The Paisley side have once again been linked with a loan move for Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo over the weekend.

Goodwin admits he’s still on the hunt for reinforcements up front, but is biding his time until the English market kicks into gear.

He said: “We’re always looking for good attacking players.

“Unfortunately they’re quite expensive and we’ve got to be sensible.

“We’re waiting for the English market to open.

“I’ve got some young loan strikers I’d like to bring up but that won’t happen straight away.”

After Celtic's opening day hammering of Hamilton, manager Neil Lennon admitted a temporary move for the frontman is “something we may look at”.

Asked about St Mirren’s interest, he said: “I’m not aware of that. But it’s something we may look at.

“First things first, we need to get Vakoun fit and take it from there.”

Bayo is behind  Odsonne Edouard,  Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala in the pecking order at Celtic and Lennon has already signalled he’d like to add another striker before the summer window shuts.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers 18 months ago, 23-year-old Bayo still has two years left on his Parkhead contract, despite only making 16 top team appearances - scoring four goals - in that time.
