St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin pays tribute to teen debutant thrown in at the deep end against Livi

Manager Jim Goodwin paid tribute to teenage stand-in Scott Glover as the St Mirren academy product was thrown in at the deep end for the Buddies.

The 19-year-old was drafted into the back four to try and plug the gap left by the Saints current defensive injury list.

Despite the hosts shipping three goals, Goodwin praised the teenager for standing up to the fierce challenge that came from both the Livingston forwards and the woeful conditions.

Goodwin told Express Sport: “He’s done great in the reserves this season and in the Challenge Cup games against senior teams.

“He plays the position well and he was flung in at the deep end against a team who are probably the most direct team in the league in terms of long balls, free kicks and long throws that are coming into your box.

“He had to stand up and be counted and I thought he did that.

“We made the change to bring him off, but it wasn’t anything to do with his performance. I just felt that, at that moment in the game, we had to go for it and get another striker on the park.

“As a manager, sometimes you make these calls and you look stupid but, thankfully, it paid off today and we got our rewards.”
