St Mirren hoping for John McGinn windfall after former star linked with mega-money Manchester United move

St Mirren are keeping a keen eye on the future of former star John McGinn after he was linked with a mega-money move to Manchester United.

The Scotland icon is enjoying an incredible season with Aston Villa, putting in a string of man-of-the-match performances for the West Midlands English Premier League side now managed by ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

That has reportedly attracted the attention of new Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick, who is keen to bring the 27-year-old to Old Trafford to bolster his midfield options.

That could spell a huge payday for the Buddies, who have a sell-on clause still active from when McGinn made the move to Easter Road to join Hibs in 2015.

When midfield dynamo McGinn made the switch to Aston Villa, Hibs inserted a sell-on clause of their own of 15 per cent, with Saints set to bag 30 per cent of any future windfall.

If the Scotland fans’ favourite’s reported £50million pound switch to the Old Trafford club was to take place, Hibs would be due £5.35 million while the Paisley club would net a cool £2.25 million.

And that would be a huge cash boost as St Mirren continue to recover from the financial cost of the coronavirus pandemic.
