St Mirren hit by further coronavirus blow as second player returns positive test

St Mirren have been rocked by a further blow as the club announced a second player has tested positive for Covid-19.

Buddies keeper Jak Alnwick has already been forced into self-isolation after returning a positive test during the club's weekly testing regime.

Alnwick contracting the virus also forced Hamilton defender Lee Hodson - who is his flatmate - into quarantine.

And now the Paisley side have revealed a most recent round of testing has flagged up a second case.

Jim Goodwin 's side are due to host Hibs on Saturday as Premiership action returns following the international break.

A club statement said: "Following the most recent round of COVID testing, St Mirren Football Club can confirm that a second player has tested positive for COVID-19. This comes following the news of the positive test earlier this week.

"The club can confirm that it has followed all protocol to the letter and has informed all relevant authorities.

"We will be making no further comment at this time."
