St Mirren have been hit with two 3-0 defeats and a suspended fine by the SPFL

By KYLE GUNN

St Mirren have been hit with two 3-0 defeats and a suspended fine by the SPFL after being found guilty of breaching Covid-19 protocols.

PAISLEY DAILY EXPRESS: Live news as it happens

This relates to games which were postponed against Motherwell and Hamilton,  following a breakout at the Paisley club in October.

Saints were hopeful that the games could be rearranged but the league has now made their position clear.

And the judgement, which includes a £40,000 fine suspended until 2021, now leaves the Buddies level on points with Brian Rice’s Accies but they still occupy the playoff spot due to  a better goal difference.

A club statement said the club were disappointed with the outcome but they would review their position before commenting further.

It read: “St Mirren Football Club is disappointed with the outcome of the SPFL disciplinary hearing into the circumstances surrounding our postponed fixtures against Motherwell and Hamilton.

“The hearing found St Mirren guilty of breaching protocols and subsequently imposed 3-0 wins to both Motherwell and Hamilton alongside a £40,000 fine, suspended until June 2021

“The club operated honestly throughout the whole process and will review its position before issuing a further response.
