St Mirren fans rally round club as fundraiser set up to help pay off Covid penalty

Determined Saints supporters have started a fundraiser to help their beloved club pay their fine for breaching coronavirus rules.

While the Buddies successful SFA appeal did see the original SPFL punishment reduced significantly, the Paisley side have still been hit with a £10,000 penalty.

But St Mirren fans are desperate to help pay the sanction, with supporters raising more than £2,000 already for their team.

A statement on the page created by West Bank SMFC reads: “St Mirren have been hit with a hefty fine by the SPFL due to Covid-19 breaches during the pandemic.

“The way St Mirren have been treated by the SPFL has been harsh to say the least. If the SPFL had their way we would have been forced to forfeit two games 3-0 and pay a £40,000 fine.

“Thankfully Saints won the appeal, which reduces the sanctions down to a £10,000 fine due immediately and a further suspended £10,000 fine, along with legal fees.

“This fund has been set up to help the club out during this challenging time. Any donation you can give will help the club we all love.”
