St Mirren fans locked out of Celtic Park as red zone rules raise fears over Rangers clash at Ibrox

St Mirren fans will be locked out of Celtic Park for their fixture on Saturday, with the hosts forced to move some of their supporters to the away section.

While Scotland has moved to level zero Covid restrictions, there are still protocols which apply to football stadiums.

One such rule is that there must be a sanitary 'red zone' in the stadium which cannot be occupied by fans.

As a result Celtic fans have been displaced from their season ticket seats - and must now be housed in the away end.

A statement from the Paisley club announced: "Celtic have confirmed that no tickets will be issued to St Mirren supporters this Saturday.

"Due to current protocols, Celtic must relocate a high number of season ticket holders to areas which would normally be allocated to the away support."

The move has raised fears that there could be no away fans for the first meeting between Celtic and Rangers this season.

While that match will be played at Ibrox, red zone rules will still be in place in Govan.

And that could mean that no tickets are sold to Celtic fans as the hosts accommodate their own season ticket holders.
