St Mirren confirm three players OUT of Motherwell clash as Jim Goodwin counts coronavirus cost

Luckless St Mirren have confirmed that three players will miss out on their game against Motherwell on Saturday after two tested positive for coronavirus and a third is in precautionary self-isolation.

The Buddies have already fallen foul of the virus having been made to play Hibs and Celtic without their three first-team goalkeepers.

Only an emergency loan deal for Hearts star Zdenek Zlamal prevented the unusual situation of goalkeeper coach Jamie Langfield having to return between the sticks after three years of retirement.

And now the club has confirmed that they will be without three of their stars for Saturday's crucial match as coach Jim Goodwin attempts to get his side away from the foot of the Scottish Premiership table.

A club statement read: "St Mirren Football Club can confirm that two first-team players have returned a positive COVID-19 test result in our most recent round of routine testing.

"The players who returned positive tests will self-isolate in line with Scottish Government guidelines. We can also confirm that another player is in self-isolation as a precaution.

"As a result, the three players will be unavailable for this weekend’s match against Motherwell.

"Everyone at the club wishes those involved a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming everyone back once it is safe to do so."
