St Mirren confirm 'several' positive coronavirus tests among coaching staff as club moves to limit spread

St Mirren have confirmed that "several" coaching staff have tested positive for coronavirus but players remain unaffected.

Record Sport exclusively revealed that the Paisley club had been placed into lockdown after testing returned a number of positive COVID-19 cases.

That has raised fears over the start of the Premiership season, but St Mirren have assured no players have tested positive.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm our testing regimen has identified several members of our coaching staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

"We immediately contacted the health authorities, and the SPFL and the SFA have also been informed.

"Thus far no members of the playing staff have tested positive and we are taking all possible precautions to ensure there is no further spread.

"We will provide an update in due course."

The regulations require testing before every match and clubs must confirm results with their opponent and the Scottish FA 24 hours in advance of a fixture.

Provided players do not test positive the Buddies will still be able to begin the Premiership season away to Livingston on August 1.

Pre-season has already seen issues with the new rules though, with Hibs forced to cancel a friendly with Ross County after their tests were not returned in time.
