St Mirren confirm rejected Hibs bid for club captain as Jack Ross plots Kyle Magennis reunion

Saints are hanging on to one of their biggest assets as Hibs try to prise away club captain Kyle Magennis.

Former Buddies boss Jack Ross has made the academy star a top target ahead of the transfer window shutting next Monday.

But St Mirren insist they have no intention of letting the 22-year-old leave, rejecting a "substantial" bid from the Easter Road side last night.

A St Mirren spokesman said: "St Mirren Football Club can confirm it has rejected a substantial offer for Kyle Magennis from Hibernian Football Club.

"A St Mirren Youth Academy graduate, Kyle has made over 100 appearances for Saints since his debut in 2016; helping us achieve promotion to the Scottish Premiership in 2018 and maintaining our top flight status.

"In June of this year Kyle was named club captain such is the esteem he is held at within St Mirren.

"While Kyle is currently ruled out with by injury, he remains an integral part of our football club and we have no desire to sell. We look forward to welcoming him back into the squad in the very near future."

The Scotland under-21 international has one year left on his contract and would be free to speak to other clubs in January.

Ross has already raided his former club since taking over in Edinburgh, persuading Paul McGinn to join halfway through last season.

He also picked up ex-Saints captain Stephen McGinn after he left St Mirren Park over the summer.
