St Mirren Colts suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat as their SPFL Trust Trophy campaign came to an abrupt halt at Cliftonhill Stadium.
The young Buddies went into their second round clash with Albion Rovers on the back of a penalty shootout win over Kelty Hearts in the first round.
Without star man Dylan Reid, who was on international duty with Scotland's under-17 side, Rovers took a fortunate lead inside the opening two minutes as Saints Daniel McManus’ misjudged back pass flew into his own net.
Kyle Doherty doubled Rovers lead on 22 minutes, before scoring from the penalty spot just before the break to leave the Paisley side with a mountain to climb in the second half.
On-form Doherty completed his hat-trick on just before the hour mark, and added a fourth with the aid of a deflection as St Mirren's afternoon went from bad to worse.
Kieran Dolan’s impressive solo goal wrapped up the victory at the death, ending the Buddies' SPFL Trust hopes in the process.
The St Mirren starting XI was: Thackery, Clocherty, Ellis, McManus, McDonald, McMaster, Struthers, Taylor, Offord, Jack, Thomson.
