St Mirren claim they have rejected 'substantial' Hibs bid for midfielder Kyle Magennis

St Mirren say they have rejected a 'substantial' bid from Hibernian for midfielder Kyle Magennis.

In a statement, the Paisley club claimed the 22-year-old, who has not played since January after suffering a cruciate ligament injury, "remains an integral part" of the squad, adding they have "no desire to sell".

Jack Ross handed Magennis his debut as an 18-year-old in a 2-0 defeat at Easter Road while he was Buddies boss in October 2016.

The Hibs boss has so far been frustrated in his attempts to bolster his midfield ranks after the men in green and white missed out on Ross McCrorie and Scott Fraser during the transfer window,

Magennis has made more than 100 appearances for the Paisley outfit, lifting the Championship title with Ross in 2018 and was ever-present for Jim Goodwin's side last season before injury.

However, St Mirren say they have no intention of allowing the player to leave, reiterating they "look forward" to welcoming back from injury in the next few weeks.

The statement read: "St Mirren Football Club can confirm it has rejected a substantial offer for Kyle Magennis from Hibernian Football Club.

"A St Mirren Youth Academy graduate, Kyle has made over 100 appearances for Saints since his debut in 2016; helping us achieve promotion to the Scottish Premiership in 2018 and maintaining our top flight status. In June of this year Kyle was named club captain such is the esteem he is held at within St Mirren.

"While Kyle is currently ruled out with by injury, he remains an integral part of our football club and we have no desire to sell. We look forward to welcoming him back into the squad in the very near future."

Speaking after the 3-0 defeat to Celtic on Sunday, Ross confirmed there were "one or two" areas of the squad he wanted to strengthen before the end of the window.

He said: "We still need to [bring players in]. If we want to stay where we are in the league there are one or two areas of the pitch we need to address."
