St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson hints at giving fringe players a shot after frustrating Ross County defeat

Stephen Robinson has vowed to cure St Mirren’s travel sickness after being consumed by away-day blues for the fourth game in a row.

The Buddies boss could barely hide his frustration in the wake of Saturday’s 3-2 Premiership reverse at Ross County.

Saints were 2-1 up at the break but shocking defending allowed Jordan Tillson and George Harmon to put the Staggies in front.

Robinson’s men were unable to recover as they slid to a fifth defeat in six matches away from Greenhill Road.

And the Paisley gaffer can’t take much more after watching his side ship 13 goals – scoring just two in reply – since their last victory on the road at Dundee United in August.

He said: “We got punished for mistakes again.

“We didn’t defend the first goal properly – we didn’t stay with our man.

“For the second goal, the midfield runner goes off us when we are in control of the situation and the third one we lose a runner again in the box.

“If we defend like that then we are going to get beat in games.

“It seems to be at home we are very diligent but systems and tactics go out the window if you don’t do the basics right.

“We haven’t done them right and we’ve been punished heavily away from home.

“It’s up to me to change that whether that’s giving personnel who have worked hard and waited for opportunities their chance now.

“We have to sit down with individuals and as groups, as we always do, to try and make sure those mistakes are rectified.”

Seventh-placed Saints will be aiming to keep the home fires burning when St Johnstone come calling on Wednesday night.

However, there will be much reviewing and reflecting as the Buddies aim to go into the World Cup intermission on a high.

Robinson added: “We’ve got a short turnaround for Wednesday.

“I’ve got a fantastic bunch of boys and I’m not going to criticise them too heavily.

“We know we’ve said things in the dressing room – they were told the truth.

“It’s not often I lose my patience but I did today as it feels we’ve let opportunities go in the last two games to move a bit clearer in third or fourth place.”
