St Mirren boss reveals delight record-breaker Dylan Reid is 'one of ours' amid interest from Europe

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin says he’s delighted rising star Dylan Reid is “one of ours” after making his hotly-anticipated debut for the club.

The Buddies midfielder became the youngest ever Premiership player after making a late substitute appearance at Ibrox on Saturday, having just turned 16 last Monday.

Goodwin, who has spoken of his high hopes for the talented youngster in recent months, believes the prospect has a bright future ahead of him and is glad that it currently lies in Paisley.

He said: “We’re delighted to give him his opportunity. We’ve got a great track record of bringing young lads through and developing them.

“Allan McManus and Andy Webster in the academy deserve great credit. I’m just in the fortunate position as manager to give him that opportunity.

“He’s still a baby and has a lot of developing to do physically. But technically he’s very, very good, hence why he’s got a lot of admirers from here in the UK and around Europe.

“We’re delighted he’s one of ours. I’ve watched a lot of games of him and even at under-18s he was head and shoulders above everyone else at that level.

“He’s been loving it since coming up to full training and he’s getting better with every session.

“It’s a great learning curve for him. Rangers was his first trip away with the boys to see and feel that kind of experience.

"He’s one we’re really looking forward to seeing develop in the months and years to come.”
