St Mirren aim to tempt Craig Gordon away from Celtic with first team football pledge

St Mirren have launched a stunning bid to prise Scotland international goalkeeper Craig Gordon away from Celtic.

The Hoops are hoping to hang on to the former £9 million shot-stopper as they bid to win their tenth Premiership title in a row.

He has been offered much-reduced terms to stay at Parkhead, and the Buddies have reportedly held signing talks with the 54-times capped keeper.

The Saints will be hoping the lure of a number one spot will prove pivotal, as Gordon looks to push his way back into the international reckoning with Scotland still in the mix to qualify for the next European Championships.

The Buddies lost their star goalkeeper this week when they announced Czech star Vaclav Hladky had turned down the offer of a new deal.

That leaves them with Dean Lyness and young prospect Peter Urminsky as goalkeeping options ahead of next season.

St Mirren are one of a number of clubs understood to be interested in the 37-year-old, with former club Hearts almost sealing a deal for his return to Tynecastle in January.
